Over the years, Micro Mold and Plastikos have partnered with many of our customers on Research & Development projects. Our extensive experience with tool design, fabrication, and molding coupled with our engineering capabilities make us a valuable partner during a product’s R&D and pre-production phases.
Frequently, prototyping is a great way to gain an early insight of how the product is going to look and feel, and Plastikos will work with you during the prototype phase in order to optimize the product prior to full-scale production. Our short lead times and cost-effective tooling methods provide our customers with a product that is fully functional as well as economically priced.
Moreover, prototypes are also requested when a product is converted from one material to another or when a more efficient means of production is required.
For example, a customer approached us with a component that was molded from PEEK and subsequently machined to the required dimensions. Micro Mold and Plastikos were confident that the secondary operation could be eliminated, thus, dramatically reducing the piece price. However, there were some interesting challenges associated with the project. This particular part had an unusually thick nominal wall (0.147”) due to the fact the existing part was exposed to high forces and thirty cycles per second. Knowing that warpage would be an issue with the current wall thickness, Micro Mold and Plastikos worked with material suppliers and mold simulation experts in order to deliver a product that our customers could test before committing to a production tool.
