Case Study #4: Fluid Flow Control Handle (Medical Industry) - This control
handle contains through and intersecting holes that regulate the flow of
fluid within a medical device. The
project required extremely tight tolerances (+/- .0001 inches on plastic) to
be held in order to form a plastic-to-plastic seal without the use of o-rings
in the device. In order to obtain this
level of control, the mold required the adherence of a tolerance of +/-
.00005 inches on steel. The initial mold was built over 18 years ago, and is still
used in daily production by the customer.
In addition to the original mold, eight variations have been built by
Micro Mold to date. |
